Into the darkness Or is it the light I bought my ticket Just to stay for the night Then you started kissing I’d rather hear it from you This might lead to a fight But I came to talk it through Your body against mine I couldn’t help it but cry No one can stop us But I have to try The 3 a.m. hotdog It stayed with me for days But else there is nothing left We went different ways

Picked up the car for the gig tonight And I put it in reverse Drive back to your city Like I did in another life Went past the petrol station Where you used to get your coke Speed up to a hundred twenty I’m starting to feel cold Oh how I hate this city And I hated it back then Oh how I hate this city And I hated it back then Coming back to your neighborhood One last time and then I’m done Allow myself to hate it now And I must admit it’s fun I’m rolling down the window To let the memories go out There’s a good song on the radio And that is all that I care about Oh how I hate this city And I hated it back then Oh how I hate this city And I hated it back then Oh how I hate this city And I hated it back then Oh how I hate this city And I hated it back then Oh how I hate this city And I hated it back then Oh how I hate this city And I hated it back then

Get A Dog 03:29
You’re moving to the countryside Maybe I should settle too Get a dog and a job That really pays me money You’re moving to the countryside Maybe I should settle too Get a dog and a job That really pays me money Mama don’t you see That was the whole point of being me Mama don’t you see That was the whole point of being me We used to cycle to the forest We were critical mass Now you complain about the prices When you stop once more for gas Maybe Julia was right And this will truly never change We’re gonna keep getting older And it’s gonna keep feeling strange Mama don’t you see That was the whole point of being me Mama don’t you see That was the whole point of being me Mama don’t you see That was the whole point of being me Mama don’t you see That was the whole point of being me

Mine 03:47
Sitting in the kitchen Staring at the wall You ask so many questions But no one asks at all Would you be mine Would you be mine I listen through your LPs You’re lying on the bed Please don’t close the shutters You know that I am scared Would you be mine Would you be mine Let’s go to the local store To get some wine and cheese And chat until the morning But then I need to leave Would you be mine Would you be mine

The birds outside my window They are singing as if the world Was still the same And I’m ashamed Friday for future But I’m getting tired of it all I’m getting tired of the white old men Who are telling me what I should do Another heatwave over Europe And no AC can get us out of it It’s the coldest summer of our future lives And the ones in charge keep telling lies There’s a war in the Ukraine They’re leveling it to the ground And there’s a shooting in Texas While LA is burning down We’re still young they say we have time Time to try things out and time to fail We’re still young they say we have time But the truth is: we’ve got no time at all We’re still young they say we have time Time to try things out and time to fail We’re still young they say we have time But the truth is: we’ve got no time at all

Parasol 03:35
Back to back like sardines we lie in the sand The powder is running softly through my left hand And the seagulls they turn their circles in the salty air That wildly forms the shape of my lover’s hair Parasol give me the shelter that I need Parasol give me the shelter that I need Look out the window it’s Sunday Time to lay down the mundane Let’s go and get out the deckchair And take the kids out of childcare Parasol give me the shelter that I need Parasol give me the shelter that I need Parasol give me the shelter that I need Parasol give me the shelter that I need

Obituary 03:43
I read it in the news today That your father died I didn’t find the right words to say That’s why I lied When you called me in January You said he was ready to go Next to you on the obituary There’s a woman now I know That I’ve been holding on for too long And you’ve been moving on all along I almost could have felt you there By my side My brother said he ran into you In the store around the block You told him all about your new life But you were still wearing my socks Time passed and it made you Become an angel in my mind Too many years of not seeing you I guess they just made me blind And I’ve been holding on for too long And you’ve been moving on all along I almost could have felt you there By my side

Marjorie 02:55
Marjorie steps out of her old yellow Mercedes I didn’t know if she’ll show up But now she is here in all her glory Insisting she will put me up The leather seats are cracked Too many years of salt and sea She talks the whole way there I'm not sure it's to me Marjorie we can’t go faster than a crawl The cars are piling up but you don’t care at all We finally made it up to the house It smells like 50 years of party We’re sitting by the emptied pool Drinking alcohol free Bacardi At night I roam the great white halls Chatting with ghosts of the past Few rooms I do not enter Some questions don't need to be asked Marjorie we can’t go faster than a crawl The cars are piling up but you don’t care at all Marjorie we can’t go faster than a crawl The cars are piling up but you don’t care at all I travelled on I think she sold the house And we lost touch It all burned down in a bush fire But other than that I don't know Marjorie we can’t go faster than a crawl The cars are piling up but you don’t care at all Marjorie we can’t go faster than a crawl The cars are piling up but you don’t care at all
9.
Love 03:46
I haven’t cried in weeks But who am I to cry I’ve got all one needs But tears in my eyes Will you wait down the line? Will you wait down the line? Love come take me away I want to fly Love come take me away I want to try Now that I know That it’s never forever This is what’s holding me From trying at all Will you wait down the line? Will you wait down the line? Love come take me away I want to try again Love come take me away I want to try

about

Pina Palau has always been fascinated by the stories behind people. This was evident in her initial pursuit of becoming a psychiatrist. But alongside her medical studies, she had another love: music. And music had different plans in store for her. The debut album «Illusion» saw remarkable success with its first single, «Jupi,» accumulating around a million streams on its own.

Soon, I was playing concerts all over Europe, including at the Montreux Jazz Festival and Reeperbahn Festival in Hamburg, and supporting great artists just as Courtney Barnett or Alex Lahey. Instead of sitting in a psychiatrist's chair, I found myself behind the wheel of a tour bus. Works for me! Pina Palau

Yet, the Zurich based musician found time to record new music: In March 2024, her second album, «Get A Dog,» is set to be released. Just as the debut, it will be released by Mouthwatering Records (home to Black Sea Dahu, Odd Beholder, To Athena).

On the new record, the indie-folk artist continues her musical journey, being influenced by the likes Adrienne Lenker (Big Thief), Julia Jacklin, Courtney Barnett, and Phoebe Bridgers. Added to this mix is the imprint of music legends just as Joan Baez, Patti Smith, and Janis Joplin – names that form a musical family. Additional members of this musical family are the contributors to «Get A Dog»: Mario Hänni and Giuliano Sulzberger, as well as the newly joining Vojko Hutter and Konstantin Aebli as part of the core team. The latter two are also accompanying Pina Palau in live performances, complemented by Naiara Balmer on electric bass. Also featured on the album are Luzius Schuler, Gina Été, Alon Ben, and Paul Märki. The recording took place in Zurich, on the French border near Basel, and at Casa Tuena in Graubünden.

We finished the record at Casa Tuena, where we would dive into the ice-cold waters of Lake Poschiavo every morning, record in the wooden living room during the day, enjoy wine in the garden in the evenings, and marvel at the clear starlit sky. It’s been a dream. Pina Palau

Lyrically, the songwriter presents herself as an observer of supposed trivialities, navigating between melancholy and dry humor. Some songs revolve around the aging process of formerly left-wing students, the liberation from an ex-partner or simply moving into a new flat and the associated challenges. Yet Pina Palau's passion for Los Angeles also shimmers through, whether she is portraying her great-aunt Marjorie or recounting the bleak reality of American family ideals.

Driven by a desire to understand unvarnished humanity - the motivations, emotions and stories that shape our lives - Pina Palau dissects the history of everyday life with the same enthusiasm that once drove her to her medical studies, where she studied neurons, inflammatory mediators and cardiovascular issues. It's as simple as that, isn't it?

about

Pina Palau Zürich, Switzerland

We live in an enchanted world, unfortunately way too often we’re too busy to even notice. It takes a special type of artist to draw back the curtain and make us recognise this magic nestled in the mundane. Singer-songwriter Pina Palau possesses this rare gift. Her songs obsess over the everyday: coaxing the poetry out of situations and characters that seem all too familiar. ... more
